Burning Rose Cover Reveal! (by Hope Ann)

Hey everyone!

I’m joining in to help Hope Ann reveal the cover of her paperback collection version of the first three novellas in the Legends of Light series! 🙂

I’ll be reviewing it in a few weeks, so stay tuned…

Meanwhile, here’s the info and cover! ^_^

Burning Rose by Hope Ann

A war, founded in ancient legends, changes the lives of those it touches forever.

Elissa, a villager from the northern mountains, attempts to save her brother and ends up trapped in a hidden valley with a strange host and a treacherous enemy.

Evrard, the Wingmaster of the Prince’s army, races against his own weakening powers to discover the location of his twin and save her from deadly mistbenders.

Haydn, a pardoned rebel from Tauscher’s army, confronts shadows of myth and former comrades in his struggle to keep his sister safe and find the stolen Stormestone.

BONUS

Before the war, before the legends, before the Separation, there was a man who started it all. There was a curse, a promise, and a sacrifice. There was the Oathkeeper.

Fairy tales retold as you have never heard them before.

ROSE OF THE OATH: Beauty and the Beast
SONG OF THE SWORD: Rapunzel
SHADOWS OF THE HERSWEALD: Hansel and Gretel
and
ROSE OF THE NIGHT: a Rose of the Oath prequel

You can check out each ebook individually here or the Burning Rose page here. The Kindle version is available for preorder, but the paperback won’t be up to buy until the launch on October 3rd. (I’ll hopefully be reviewing it then, so you’re sure to hear about it. ;)) In the meantime, you can add Burning Rose on your Goodreads!

So, wanna see the cover? 😉

Designed by Kate Flournoy

ISN’T IT GORGEOUS?? 😀 *flailing around* I love it!

Bookshelf Overhaul Cover Reveals: Kendra Ardnek

Hey everyone!

Today I’m helping Kendra Ardnek reveal the covers for her upcoming re-releases of all six of her novels!

They are pretty and I’m so excited to share them. 😀

First, here’s a bit about the author…

About the Author

Kendra E. Ardnek loves fairytales and twisting them in new and exciting ways. She’s been or acting them on her dozen plus cousins and siblings for years. “Finish your story, Kendra,” is frequently heard at family gatherings. Her sole life goal has always been to grow up and be an author of fantasy and children’s tales that glorify God and His Word.

Website • Blog • Amazon • Goodreads • Facebook • Twitter

And now for the covers!

(This one is my favorite! Eek! So adorable! 😀 It makes me want to read it NOW.)

Sew, It’s a Quest

Two twins in a fairy tale world must find their Fairy Godmother before their eighteenth birthday, lest they forever be stuck with the other’s gift.

GoodreadsCreatespace (Paperback) • Smashwords (FREE ebook)

Kendra’s Revision Notes: I sent this book to my kindle, tore it to shreds, then retyped the whole thing, making every word fight to stay in the book. I completely rewrote one chapter, and added/expanded several scenes, focusing on character development and pacing, in particular Robin’s character.

Do You Take This Quest?

A prince’s quest for allies against his miserly uncle and a madcap race to get home for a wedding.

Goodreads

Kendra’s Revision Notes: This book has one added chapter, a few (potentially) added scenes, and a severe edit. Again, focus is going to Robin’s character development. I hadn’t the maturity to completely handle her emotional situation when I wrote this book, and now I intend to fix that.

(King Arthur? I’m totally up for that!! :D)

My Kingdom for a Quest

Prince Arthur’s quest to take back his kingdom, and Casperl’s quest to find out how, exactly, he’s a prince.

Goodreads

Kendra’s Revision Notes: This book was mostly clean … but it’s getting a part two. AKA, book 3.5, The Quest for a Quince, AKA, Casperl’s story. There will be a edit to part one, though.

The following three book covers were designed by Alea Harper

The Ankulen

Jen knows she had an imagination once – how far will she go to get it back?

Goodreads

Kendra’s Revision Notes: Mostly just a thorough edit. I don’t foresee any great changes.

I read The Ankulen awhile back and it was quite fun! You can read my review for it on Goodreads, here. 🙂

(This is my second-favorite! EEK. 😀 Need to read this one as well…)

Water Princess, Fire Prince

When two teens are pulled into another world, fire and water must work together to defeat a dragon.

Goodreads

Kendra’s Revision Notes: Again, mostly a thorough edit, but there will be a few continuity fixes, and I’ll be adding a bonus scene to the extra stuff at the end.

(I love that tower reflection, for some reason. o.o So cool!)

Lady Dragon, Tela Du

Only the Tela Du stands in Amber’s way for ruling Rizkaland forever. Petra would much rather find her long-lost sisters than fight a Lady Dragon.

Goodreads

Kendra’s Revision Notes: Edits mostly.

Five Poisoned Apples Cover Reveal!

Hey everyone!

I’m super excited for TWO awesome cover reveals today — so I have one here and the other on my other blog. 😉

Today I’m pleased to help reveal the cover, theme, and title of the fourth and final Rooglewood Press fairytale creative writing contest!

I haven’t read the third collection, but I enjoyed most of the stories of the first two collections (particularly all-time-favorites Broken Glass and Stone Curse! <3), and I know the whole blogosphere has been holding its breath to find out which fairytale this fourth one will feature, and to see its cover and title, so without further ado, I now present…

The Cover

Cover model/photography: Wynter Clark. Cover design: Julia Popova.

Isn’t it stunning? *collapses* I LOVE IT. ^_^

So yes, Five Poisoned Apples is its title, and it will indeed be retellings of Snow White (as I suspected!). 😀 (I even totally called the title in a comment earlier this year. XD)

I will likely not be entering myself, but I did enter the contest last year, which was an interesting experience, and I wish the best of luck to anyone who decides to dive in and write a story to submit to the contest! 🙂

Maybe I’ll end up reading one of your stories someday. 😉

All the contest details are available on Rooglewood Press’s website, HERE.

So what think ye? ISN’T IT SO PRETYYYY?? ^_^ And are you excited about a Snow-White-themed collection? And do you think you’ll try entering the contest? Tell me all in the comments!

Thanks for reading!

FYI: Reading Randomosities (Giveaway, Cover, Chant)

FYI (For Your Information Ishness), here are some Reading Randomosities of a couple of random things that don’t make posts on their own but I wanted to say, so I’m tossing them together! 🙂

#1 — Awesome Giveaway from Jenelle Schmidt!

stormcave-prize-bundle

Look at that! Jenelle is giving away a Christmas Givaway Ultimate Prize Bundle from Stormcave, including her three books (King’s Warrior, Second Son, and Yorien’s Hand) and other good stuff (CDs and another book), and it’s open for most of the rest of December, so go enter!! ^_^

#2 — Illusionarium Audiobook Cover

Okay, so this is TOTALLY random (which is kind of the point of this post?) but I noticed the other day while I was glancing over Goodreads that there was an Audiobook done of Illusionarium AND IT HAS A DIFFERENT COVER AND I LOVE IT. LOOK. BEHOLD ITS AWESOMENESS. (No, I don’t, in fact, know what you’re supposed to do with this information. Unless it’s to just stare at it. You’re welcome.)

illusionariumaudiocover

#3 — I’m spontaneously rereading Chrestomanci

Yes, this is a thing. I should be doing all sorts of things like getting ready for Christmas and getting through other things I need to read… but I somehow got it into my head that it would be a blast to (finally!!) re-read Diana Wynne Jones’ Chrestomanci series… aloud… because voices… and because I needed something to semi-reward myself with/relax after the insanity that was NaNoWriMo.

So I just reread Charmed Life and alskdjflskdjlfj SO MUCH LOVE. ❤ (Fun fact: I read it for the first time almost exactly two years ago, in early December 2014. I read it the 11th then, and finished it the 9th this month. History does repeat itself.) I’m now on The Lives of Christopher Chant, which is a prequel about Chrestomanci’s childhood and it’s AWESOME.

I love these books even MORE on the second-reading, if possible. o.o DWJ books are like that.

1018243 6124248

(These are kind of strange covers but at least they match and aren’t AWFUL like some other ones… I actually have both these books in a double-book collection so I don’t have covers for them… *coughcough*) *dies of laughter at “follow your dreams” on the second cover* XD

That’s it for today! Thanks for reading!

Dream away in those pages! ❤

Fall/Winter 2016 Book Releases

*pokes at poor neglected book blog* It’s NaNoWriMo so obviously not a lot of reading going on in my arena, what with trying to write 50,000 words this month…

So just a quickie post today!

I haven’t done a book-release spotlight in awhile, so here’s a brief list of 4 books I’m excited about that came out/are coming out this October/November/December as we wrap up 2016!

An Earthly King (Modern Tales of Na Fianna, #2) – Hazel B. West

Oct 31, 2016

{Goodreads} {Amazon}

I reviewed this last week and let me tell you, you definitely don’t want to miss this awesome modern/medieval/Fae story set in a contemporary Ireland with an alternate history, with loads of awesome characters and shenanigans. So, so, SO good! ❤

The Silent Songbird – Melanie Dickerson

Nov 8, 2016

{Goodreads} {Amazon}

Yes indeed, it released today! *happy flailing* Set in the generation between The Merchant’s Daughter and The Princess Spy, it’s a Little Mermaid retelling in medieval England and I can’t WAIT to read it! Melanie Dickerson’s fairy tale retellings are always so enjoyable! 🙂

The Shattered Heart (Book of Sight, #5) – Deborah Dunlevy

Dec 1, 2016

{Amazon} {Author’s Site}

So this is the final book in the Book of Sight series, of which I’ve read the first three and really enjoyed them (contemporary fantasy and just a lot of fun), and this gorgeous cover JUST got revealed today and I’m so excited to finish reading this series! (Also terrified what with that title and all; but hey, it happens. XD)

Once: Six Historically Inspired Fairytales – by:

  • Elisabeth Grace Foley
  • Rachel Heffington
  • J. Grace Pennington
  • Emily Ann Putzke
  • Suzannah Rowntree
  • Hayden Wand

Dec 2, 2016

{Goodreads}

This is a collection of half a dozen retellings of various fairytales, by authors I enjoy and others I’ve seen around the interwebs… Most of these sound pretty cool so I’m looking forward to this one! What can I say… fairytale retellings are my weak spot. 😛

How about you? Excited for any of these? What books are you excited for that are coming out soon?

The Rose and the Balloon – Cover Reveal!

Today I’m VERY excited to take part in revealing the cover of a book I’m currently reading, The Rose and the Balloon by Kirsten Fichter, which is a Beauty and the Beast retelling with a steampunk twist! (What is not to love?? Answer: nothing at all, naturally!)

The book is coming out on August 1st, which is sooooon, and I’ll be reviewing it sometime thereafter (so far I’m quite enjoying it!).

Meanwhile!

(Wait, what? Where did that come from? O_O Go away, Crazy Maeva! *cough*)

Er, that is…

BEHOLD!

ITS!

BEAUTEOUSNESS!

(But not beastness? AHEM.)

Cover5_story

Summary:

Cover5_storyIn a kingdom where fauna and flora are held in higher esteem than breakfast, Dmitri is a prince who yearns for change and plans it in a single daring act that will alter his life forever. However, when his demented mother accidentally causes the destruction of a prized garden of roses, Dmitri is horrified when she proposes his hand in marriage to make up for it. Not only will a wife hamper his glorious plans, he doesn’t even want one.

Janelle has spent her whole life on her father’s rose farm, tending the roses and staying simple. But she really yearns for something greater than the flower beds. But now there’s a wrench thrown in the works – the crazy Queen Maeva wants her to marry the prince, and all for ruining her father’s beloved roses.

This is Beauty and the Beast with a twist like you’ve never seen it before.

About the author:

AuthorPic1Kirsten Fichter is a twenty-something Christian writer who is trying to find the balance between being one of six kids, a church pianist, a college student, a movie buff, a disaster in the kitchen, and a writing INFP. If you know what the secret is to balancing all of that, she’d be grateful to hear from you. Otherwise, don’t contact her unless you want to send her homemade gingerbread. Or a new piano book. Or an autographed Charles Dickens novel. In the meantime, she’ll be somewhere under a maple tree – trying very hard to finish the seventeen and half other stories she unwisely started all at once.

Find her here: Blog (Lianne Taimenlore) | Twitter (@KiriLiz) | Goodreads

So! What do you think? Isn’t it GORGEOUS??? *flails around and collapses* (Yes, I posted it in two sizes because I couldn’t decide which one to do. So you got to look at it twice. YOU’RE WELCOME.) I have a thing for roses, myself, as well as for Beauty and the Beast, so I obviously am absolutely swooning over this cover and this book. 😀 I hope it makes you want to read it, because it does me! ❤

Thanks for reading!

Bookish Book Lover Tag

I was tagged by the lovely bookish (and author in her own right!) Shantelle Hannu @ A Writer’s Heart for a new fun tag which she created, the Bookish Book Lover Tag. Thanks ever so much, Shantelle! 🙂

So let’s get to it! (I think I took all the covers from Goodreads… and I didn’t feel like linking to them all but if you want to look any of these up — which you totally should — you can find them on my Goodreads.)

Rules

  • Use the Banner
  • Answer the Questions
  • Use Lots of Book Covers *smiles*
  • Tag Your Bookish Friends!

Questions

1) What Book Are You Currently Reading?

Defying Shadows by Ashley Townsend, which I’m beta-reading (it’s releasing soon!). It’s excellent so far. 😀

2) What’s The Last Book You Finished?

The Golden Braid by Melanie Dickerson. I loved it!

3) Favorite Book You Read This Year?

Let’s see if I can keep it down to a handful…

Paper Crowns by Mirriam Neal, Fire and Hemlock by Diana Wynne Jones, Blood Ties by Hazel B. West, The Beautiful Pretender by Melanie Dickerson, The Map: A Jackaby Story by William Ritter, and The Castle Corona by Sharon Creech. That’s a start. 😉

4) What Genre Have You Read Most This Year?

Definitely fantasy, of all shapes and sizes.

5) What Genre Have You Read Least This Year?

Hmm. Either non-fiction or mystery.

6) What Genre Do You Want To Read More Of?

I’m going to go with Shantelle’s answer and say fairy tale retellings. 🙂

7) How Many Books Have You Read This Year, And What’s Your Goal?

I’ve read 45, and my goal is 60, so… it looks like I’ll make it, yay! 😉

rdchllg2016

8) What’s The Last Book You Bought?

Just did a post about this. 🙂

JunSale2016

9) What Book Are You Saving Up To Buy Next?

Briette by Anita Valle. (Yes, this is one of the few ebook series I’ve gotten addicted enough to that I actually BUY ebooks. *gasp*)

10) How Many Books Did You Check Out Last Library Visit?

Just the one… *sadface* But it was The Golden Braid, which I mentioned, and I really enjoyed it! (I wanted to check out a bunch more, but I’m so busy so I exercised restraint. *gasp*)

11) What’s A Book You Can’t Wait To Read?

Mist of Midnight by Sandra Byrd, which has been waiting on my To-Read-Soon pile for a long time…

12) What’s A Series You’d Recommend to Everyone?

Goodness, I apparently don’t read many series since I’m having a hard time thinking of one! O_O (I start lots but don’t always get around to finishing them… yet.) Umm… I’m going to cheat and just say a book instead of a series. Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones (you knew it was coming. ;)).

howl2

13) Who’s An Author You’re Hoping Writes More?

Heather Dixon! She’s only got two books out (Entwined and Illusionarium) both of which I loved. (Also, gotta be some of THE best covers in the universe. ❤ Amazing how the stories inside are even BETTER — can you believe it??)

14) A Few Books Your Heart Adores?

Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones, Paper Crowns by Mirriam Neal, The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall, Searching for Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede, The Gammage Cup by Carol Kendall, The Ordinary Princess by M. M. Kaye… and so many more!

15) What Series’s Coming Conclusion Makes You Sad?

Hmm, I don’t usually get sad at series endings because I don’t usually make it there and/or the series are often all published already by the time I read them. But… I think I’ll be a little sad when the Six of Crows series by Leigh Bardugo is over because there’s only two books… There should be more than two. XD (Also because I’m worried to death about Kaz and company. >.> So much worry. Eek.)

16) What Books Are On Your Wish-List?

Oh, so many (particularly some Diana Wynne Jones books…)! But I do keep a wishlist shelf on Goodreads. (There are some I’ve read that I want to own that I haven’t added on there, but still.) At the moment (it seems to change), a few near the top of my wishlist (some of which have yet to be published!) are: Ghostly Echoes by William Ritter, Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo, The Silent Songbird by Melanie Dickerson, King’s Blood by Jill Williamson, Briette by Anita Valle, Finn Family Moomintroll by Tove Jansson, the third Skulduggery Pleasant book, and Very British Problems by Rob Temple.

Tagging

I tag… Hmm. I’m so bad at tagging people and I never know who to tag. -_- I have no idea if you’d like to do it or not but I tag the following people and if you want to do it, great; if not, please ignore me. XD

Lauri // Mary // Madeline // Lisa // Abi // Tracey // Jenelle // Cait

I also tag anyone who’s reading this and wants to do it! (Either on your blog or in the comments below!)

BOOK TAG YAY! It’s quick and fun and easy, I promise. 😀
