Behold my hoped-for nightstand reads for February is Fantasy Month! (Rolling two different Jenelle-Schmidt-themed things into one since she and DJ Edwardson came up with Nightstand Books? XD)
These are the (visible) fantasy books I hope to try to read this month… mostly fantasy. π Not pictured are a few beta-reads I must read (exciting! But not very photographable! XD). And I’m reading a Jane Austen (Mansfield Park, being the last one I haven’t read) because reasons.
- King’s Blood — I’m reading this one for review and JUST LOOK AT ITS GORGEOUSNESS. AND ENORMITY. I may be at this one for awhile. XD It’s big enough that I’m trying not to be too ambitious for my other reading this month. o.o
- The Firethorn Crown — The Fellowship of Fantasy is reading this one this month as a book club read and it’s the perfect excuse for me to finally read the gorgeous copy I won last year and didn’t get around to reading. (#fail) But it’s a retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses so I’m excited. π
- Howl’s Moving Castle — Speaking of book clubs, the Goodreads Diana Wynne Jones Fans group is reading HMC this month for a Valentine-ish read, and I need no excuse to reread one of my top two favorite books. β€
- Mixed Magics — I’m re-reading (aloud) my way through the Chrestomanci series, and this one’s next. Going to be fun. π This series is even MORE amazing on reread!
Posting Plans for February
Sometimes I’m entirely planned out and have aaall my posts either ready or at least planned.
And then there are the other times.
This is one of those other times. π
But hey, let’s roll with it! I have no concrete plans for the month, but I hope to share a few fantasy book reviews throughout the month (if I can actually get around to writing them… >.>) and I may do a fantasy-ish tag thingamy. I don’t know! But hopefully some fun, regardless. π
Fantasy Etc. Scavenger Hunt (Jill Williamson)
Also! There’s a fun (and mostly fantasy) scavenger hunt later this month that Jill Williamson and some other authors are holding to celebrate the release of King’s Blood — so you simply must mark your calendars for February 17-19 because it looks like so much fun.
There’s also a super-cool giveaway for a signed copy of King’s Blood on the post about the hunt (this giveaway runs till the 7th I think?) so go enter! π
AND THE MAP. Jill made this GORGEOUS map for the scavenger hunt, visiting the worlds of the various books/worlds of the authors on the stops AND IT’S SUCH A BRILLIANT MAP AND I LOVE IT. (I mean, look how the USA and Europe are on there… and the space stations to the sci-fi books appear to be in Florida and Russia(?) like in real life, and Leira (from Orphan’s Song and Songkeeper) is by a desert, and just… it’s brilliant okay and I love it and can’t wait, so I had to mention it. XD
So! There’s a peek at some of my plans for this month! Do you have any?
Thanks for reading!
Dream away in those pages . . .

First: thank goodness you told me about the scavenger hunt, because I apparently am not subscribed to Jill’s personal website and I never would’ve known about it otherwise.
Second: the scavenger hunt sounds storming AWESOME yes gimme
Third: YOU HAVE KING’S BLOOD YOU LUCKY GIRL. I can’t wait to hear your review. π
Fourth: HOWL. I need to reread Howl. I almost did earlier this week, ’cause I thought had a cold and I like reading Howl when I have a cold. But I didn’t have a cold, so I read Blood Ties and Discworld instead.

Oh yay! *bows* So glad to be of service! π
DOESN’T IT SOUND WONDERFUL??
Heehee, thankee! It might take awhile before I can review it because I don’t know how I’m going to manage to READ it soon… *stares at all 600 pages of it* But I’m excited. π
YES HOWL ALWAYS HOWL. I love reading it when I have a cold TOO! But that’s good you didn’t have a cold, and Blood Ties and Discworld are awesome too, so. π

FANTASY! HOWL! JILL WILLIAMSON! It’s like all my favorite things in one post!
That looks like a PERFECT pile of books to read. KING’S BLOOD IS SO PWETTY. And huge. o.o BUT PWETTY. I totally need to try The Firethorn Crown myself. It looks really good. And, hello? 12DP!!! Also HOOOOOWL. I was just thinking the other day it’s high time for a reread but I have soooo many unread books I have a hard time rereading things these days. But but but HOWL.
AND OH MY GRACIOUS GOODNESS DAT MAP. O____O It. Is. Perfection. It’s too epic seeing all the people’s fantasy worlds and things. I AM IN LOVE.
Basically this whole post is full of gorgeous happy fantasy-ness. β€

All the things, yes!
IT’S SO PRETTY THOUGH. And yes, huge. XD *collapses* But I’m looking forward to it all the same. π I’ve started Firethorn Crown and it’s interesting so far. π HOWL MUST ALWAYS BE REREAD YESSS. Although I agree, it’s hard to reread things when there are so many NEW things to read first! (But Howl. <3)
YES THE MAP. ISN'T IT GORGEOUS?
Thanks, Lauri, I'm glad! π *twirls in all the fantasy-ness*

I’ve been wanting to read The Firethorn Crown since FOREVER. But, as with most of the books on the tbr-list it hasn’t been touched yet. π
And OMGOSH THAT MAP IS GORGEOUS. *stares and drools all over laptop*
I can’t wait to see what you post this month! I’m considering entering Jenelle’s short story contest, but I’m not entirely sure yet. We’ll see! π

ISN’T IT THOUGH??? β€ So much pretty. o.o
Thanks, Madeline!
I'm considering entering it too but haven't decided either… Can't wait to see if you do — I'd love to read yours!! π

Lovely Nightstand books! Also, is that harp of some kind in the top left hand corner of the picture? I am intrigued.
I SO BADLY want to read Firethorn Crown along with the Fellowship of Fantasy reading group, but I only have it on kindle… which means my computer as I do not have an actual kindle… and I’m reluctant to read things on my computer because it dims my enjoyment of the story… but I want to participate!!! So torn.
YAY for DWJ reading of any kind. I need to go reread some of hers. Particularly HMC because I’ve only read it once.
I need to also read Jill Williamson, apparently.
And thus my TBR stack grows again… which it generally does whenever I come over here and peruse your corner of the blog-o-sphere. π π

Thanks! And yes, it is a harp! You can even watch me playing (very badly XD) a Celtic song on it here, if you’d like. π https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqCI-gKaefw
Ah, I know the feeling! I hope you can decide… it’s a fun book so far–only 23 chapters. You could maybe just try reading a chapter a day or something and maybe it wouldn’t seem so… dimmed to read it on the computer?
DWJ! Her books are usually even BETTER on reread because there’s so. much. to them! π
…
…….
:O :O :O
JENELLE. YOU HAVE NOT READ JILL WILLIAMSON????
*sits in quiet shock for several minutes* Well you must remedy this!! *flailing* Her Blood of Kings trilogy is a STAPLE of Christian fantasy — book one is By Darkness Hid — get to it, get to it!
(Ahem. Sorry. π But also not sorry. XD But… yes… the ever-growing TBR…)

Yeah… I just decided to go ahead and buy the paperback… now the question is whether or not it gets here in time for me to read it and participate in the book club. Ah well. Either way I’ve been wanting to read it. π
Okay… okay! *raises hands in surrender!* I shall go see if I can find some Jill Williamson books. Our church library has a pretty nice selection of Christian Fantasy, I’ll see if they have it. π

Good choice! The paperback is lovely. β€ I hope you'll get it in time to read it! I just finished it myself and it's quite enjoyable. ^_^ But yes, either way, you win. π
YAY! Haha. π I would suggest you read By Darkness Hid as an ebook since it’s permanently free on Kindle, buuut we just went over how you don’t like ebooks as much and I don’t blame you, so. π Hopefully they have it! π
