Random Bookish Post Thing

Hello fellow page-dreamers! I feel like a random bookish post today, so that’s what this is. ^_^

I actually read 2 books this past week, which makes me feel on top of things. πŸ˜‰ For the last few months I’ve been reading 4 books a month… Not on purpose, it just worked out that way. So it felt really nice to actually read a couple shortish books in a few days. Don’t you just love that feeling when after awhile of a sort of reading slump, you just zip through a few books in a row? πŸ™‚ A feeling of happiness, I tell you!

Aren’t they gorgeous? ❀

I actually don’t own these… The Last Dragonslayer I’m borrowing from the library, and I’m currently reading that. About half-done, I think, and it’s delightful. πŸ˜€ Trying to read it before it goes back. πŸ˜‰

The other two I’m borrowing from my friend Sarah Holman who was kind enough to lend these to me — I’ve been eyeing Ashburn and The Sound of Diamonds for awhile now, have heard good things about both, and couldn’t pass up the chance to borrow physical copies! I haven’t started them yet but I’m very excited to read them once I finish some review books. πŸ™‚

Blogging in the future

I was looking at my blog post drafts and thinking about future posts… I have a few books I’d like to review and a few bookish tags to do, so I may get to those at some point. Then again, I may be busy reading instead, which, obviously, I would not complain about. XD

Thoughts on reviewing & half-year of this blog etc.

We’re halfway through the year which always makes me look back and reflect… I’ve noticed that I’ve gotten better about reviewing books this year.

It may not look like it, considering I haven’t been posting reviews for everything, but with my Reading Roundup posts, I’ve realized that’s a chance to do mini-reviews of sorts, for… everything I read. Which, if I had planned to do, I would be totally daunted and end up not getting around to it at all. But since I just dash off a couple sentences to a paragraph of brief thoughts about each book, that ends up being mini reviews.

So even if I don’t do an actual review post, I’ve realized I’m kind of reviewing all the books I’m reading this year. Which… is kind of awesome. I am notoriously a longwinded reviewer, and I do still write long reviews for the books I read that require more discussion about them, but I think I’m getting better about not always being super long.

Also, even if I don’t write a long review, I’ve sometimes been posting my little paragraph mini-reviews from my Reading Roundup posts on Goodreads, which makes me feel like a good little bookdragon. πŸ˜‰ It’s nice.

I also used to always procrastinate over reviews and agonize over having to try to make them perfect and all that sort of thing… But this year I’ve been relaxing and just dashing off a few thoughts. I’m really happy about this. I think this blog has been good for me. πŸ˜›

Anyhow, I don’t always post here very often, I know, but I really enjoy having it and it makes me happy. So. Success? I’d say yes. I would totally like to post more reviews but the whole point of this place was to be relaxed and post as little or as much as I feel like… So I guess that’s okay.

So.Β Ta-da! There you have my random rambly bookish thoughts for the day. πŸ™‚

Dream away in those pages . . .

  1. Yay for rambles, especially bookish rambles! πŸ˜€ I actually have The Last Dragonslayer sitting on my shelf. I got it secondhand at a book faire because it looked amusing, but I also wasn’t too sure about it since it had a Dollarama sticker on it…and I feel like novels sold at a dollar store probably aren’t that great. But from what you’re saying, sounds like I’m wrong! Good!

Wow, The Page Dreamer has been around for half a year already?! WHAT HAPPENED, THAT WAS YESTERDAY, NOT SIX MONTHS AGO. Someone needs to give Time a stern talking-to. πŸ˜‰

    • *happiness* ^_^ OH REALLY? AWESOME! πŸ˜€ Yeah, it’s amazing so far! πŸ™‚ I think you’d reeeeally like it. πŸ˜€ It kind of reminds me of a mix of slight Diana Wynne Jones-ness, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, and The Enchanted Forest Chronicles. Because it’s modern-times with magic but an alternate-history, and it’s kind of dry and funny and whimsical and occasionally hilarious. I dunno. It’s a lot of fun so far. πŸ˜€ *has no idea what a Dollarama is, and presumes it’s Canada’s version of a Dollar General or Walmart. XD*

I KNOW RIGHT?? O_O Time is insane right now. -_- *shakes head sadly*

      • Ooh, now I REALLY like the sound of it! πŸ˜€ Because DWJ! And Strange & Norrell! (Haven’t read The Enchanted Forest Chronicles yet.) Just wait, this might be another one of our fangirl fests. XD

Heheh, I didn’t think about Dollarama being a Canadian thing. It’s just a chain of dollar stores. Much smaller and cheaper than a Walmart, but I’ve never heard of a Dollar General, so I’ve no idea how they compare. XD (But it’s always fascinating to discover these little differences between countries!)

Time is such a slippery thing… -_- Oh! And I was going to say earlier that YES it’s a great feeling to consume books so quickly after a reading slump. I’m happy for you! πŸ˜€

        • YES! I wouldn’t say I love it nearly as much as those three things, so I dunno if it’s even a fangirly book, if that makes sense? Like, I’m seriously enjoying it but I don’t know if I’ll be shrieking. XD BUT GOODNESS TRACEY YOU NEED TO READ THE ENCHANTED FOREST BOOKS. O_O Specifically my favorite one, book 2, Searching for Dragons… *cough*

Yeah, sounds like it’s like Dollar General, pretty much. πŸ™‚ You’re right, though, it’s hilarious and fascinating. XD

UGH to Time. -_- He’s in serious trouble from me… Thank you! Yes, it’s a nice feeling. ^_^

            • @Deb: That makes total sense. It might not be THAT much of a fangirly book, but I’m still looking forward to reading it. After all, not every book can be my favorite. πŸ™‚

              Hilarious and fascinating indeed!

@both of you: APPARENTLY I REALLY REALLY REALLY NEED TO READ THEM. Hilariousness and dry wit and great characters are very much up my alley! And so are dragons. πŸ˜€

  2. Yay for reading! *huggles all the books*
I have been so busy lately, and I just haven’t been reading as much as I like…But the books I *have* read, I’ve really loved, so that’s good! ^_^
And I do the same thing with reviews! I always procrastinate over them…Must be the perfectionist in me. πŸ˜‰

    • INDEED! πŸ˜€
Aww, that’s unfortunate… I know the feeling. But at least you’re enjoying them! πŸ™‚
Yep, perfectionist buddies… *highfive* I’m trying to get out of it, but yeah, so much procrastinating on reviews. XD

  3. Okay, so like, we’re so brain twins it’s scary. o.o I relate to every single thing you said here! Such as last week I read a couple of shorter books and it was so nice after not reading much lately. JUST LIKE YOU.

Annnd EVERYTHING you said about book reviews. JUST YES. I know we’ve talked about it before, but it is so wonderful and freeing not stressing over doing these long, perfectionist book reviews any more. And, just so you know, I always look forward to your Reading Roundup posts and seeing your thoughts on each book. It’s great! And such a fantastic idea!

Basically, YES TO ALL THE THINGS.

BUT THE BOOKS! πŸ˜€ So pwetty. The Last Dragonslayer is one I’ve been wanting to read, and it sounds like it’s really good! I NEEDS IT, PRECIOUS. I also would really like to read The Sound of Diamonds and that whole trilogy sometime. Yay for sweet friends who lend book! ^_^

    • Braintwiiiins. πŸ˜€ Hurray for reading a couple short books after a slump!
Yup yup and yup. *nods* I mean, I’m still procrastinating over some of the longer ones I want to write, but at least it’s not on EVERYTHING. XD And aww, thanks so much! I’m so glad you enjoy ’em! That makes my day. ^_^
YUS. Lauri you would ADORE The Last Dragonslayer. o.o *I say while I’m only half done* *cough* But yes, I think it’s just the sort you’d like. πŸ˜€ Indeed! ^_^
